First Principle and Foundation

God creates the human community for its full flourishing
by thanking and praising God and
serving one another with God’s help.

Our Father, Who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
On Earth as it is in heaven

All other things on the face of the earth are means to that end:
the coming of the Kingdom of truth and love, justice and peace.

And so it follows that we should use all other things only if and as they
assist us in the attainment of our primary end in life.

Therefore, we ask God for freedom of spirit and interior impartiality
in regard to these other things, such that, as far as we are concerned,
we do not prefer health to sickness, riches to poverty, honor to dishonor,
or long life to short life. The same holds for all other things.

Our single desire and choice is for whatever is more conducive to the end for
which we have been created: “Thy Kingdom come.”
