How and where can one be trained to give the Spiritual Exercises?

Note: For the sake of clarity, there are at least three different levels of competency that a person could pursue:

1) One who professionally gives spiritual direction. Such a person has an academic degree of at least Masters level, or an equivalent professional certification from an accredited institution. Such a person is not necessarily qualified to give the Spiritual Exercises.
2) One who acts as a director/companion to one making the Exercises. Such a person meets the criteria promulgated by the Provincial Superiors of the United States and Upper Canadian Provinces of the Society of Jesus. Please click here to review these criteria.
3) One who acts as a prayer partner to another. Such a person is doing a very good service, but is not qualified to give the Exercises.

For those who wish to be trained as directors/companions to persons making the Spiritual Exercises, according to the Provincials’ criteria (cf. #2 above), individual training is offered in the Maryland Province as follows:
