Grand Farewell For Fr. Barber

Gene Barber, SJ, took part in a huge outdoor farewell Mass earlier this month with hundreds of his religious dance groups and friends present. Provincial Guillermo Baranda was the principal celebrant of the liturgy which was an impressive and emotional show of gratitude for Fr. Barber’s 19 years of dedication to popular religiosity.
More than a hundred dance groups are located in the town and they dance at three different shrines of the Virgin Mary in the mountains, far from the city of Arica.
Fr. Barber has been assigned to Santa Cruz parish in Santiago, near the shrine of St. Alberto Hurtado.
