Celebration Time in India

George Hess, SJ, wrote to report that The Jamshedpur, India, mission of the Maryland Province, which was established in 1948, marked its diamond jubilee recently. Mass was celebrated April 22 (postponed from March because of GC 35) with Lisbert D'Souza, SJ, celebrating with most of the priests of the Jamshedpur province and of the Jamshedpur diocese. Eight of the original Maryland missionaries participated. Fr. Hess sent a photo from the November 2007 celebration of the golden jubilee of the Association of Schools for the Indian School Certificate, an association he founded 50 years ago and served as secretary for 23 years. The association's schools now number 900. Fr. Hess noted in his email that it is part of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, a council shown in a government survey to be the best All-India English language "school leaving certificate" examination. Fr.
Hess was given a traditional South Indian honor during the celebration.
